My name is Grace VanBuren and I am a junior at Pasco High School. I have decided to collaborate with Jackie Simmons to create an opening scene in a dramatic thriller. We both have a huge interest in these types of films so we thought it would be a great idea to try and make our own. Because of this, we decided to pretty much imitate the common traits of the characters and the basic storyline of dramatic thriller films. By doing so, we were able to create an opening scene showing a young toddler, Sawyer, getting abducted, taking place in a large park.
After watching numerous dramatic thriller movies and further research into them, I noticed how all of them consisted of misdeeds such as abduction, murder, robbery, and anything that falls into line with major crime and/or thrilling events. Many of these films also have a hooking idea or theme mainly to keep the audience on the edge of their seats wanting to know what’s going to take place next. In our opening scene, we would like the audience to feel suspense so when it ends, they will want to be able to watch the rest of our movie.
As for style in dramatic thrillers, they are usually created to keep the audiences attention throughout the whole movie by incorporating chilling scenes and events. Most thrillers include “Based on real-life events” while showing the title credits to add a creepier effect to the rest of the film. This can change the viewers point of view of the film rather than them knowing that the events are not true.
In most thrillers, the villain/criminal usually has a mental illness or something wrong with them; and that’s why they commit the crimes. In “The Vanished”, our kidnapper is going to be played by a thirty year old man, who is going to be dressed up casually like a normal person to blend in. Costuming such as dark clothing and a baseball cap will be worn by the kidnapper. The three year old girl will just be wearing normal clothes that any other three year old would wear. The mother will also be dressed regularly too. The characters in most dramatic thrillers consist of a normal everyday person along with maybe their family and then the main criminal.
